arrested for theater crimes
It’s time to get 𝕮ultured, Aef.
With all the conflict and chaos going on with our two quarreling cities you’re probably finding it difficult to enjoy some artistic downtime here in Aefengelom. It certainly doesn’t help that options for some good old fashioned theatrical activities have been all but restricted completely thanks to Parliament’s rigid censorship. But now that their attention is focused elsewhere, it’s time to liven things up a bit in the Entertainment District!
Meaning: it’s time for some good old fashioned controversial opera writing!
—❧

Your character may find fliers (as shown above) scattered over town, and for good reason: The Grand Melodia’s own Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be conducting a new opera — and he wants you to be in it!
All characters are welcome to attend, and more importantly: to participate. Whether your character has performed on stage before or is itching to try their hand at theater for the first time hardly matters, for the curtain is drawn wide open for Witches and Monsters alike. Keep in mind, though, that those who help will be implicit in participating in an event that is normally (and extremely) prohibited! Rebellion is fun, right?
We're looking for: Actors, singers, musicians for the band, writers, prop makers, artists for backdrops, technical support, stage hands, folks to lift heavy things — LITERALLY ANYTHING you can think of!
Our story revolves around the tale of two cities (what a coincidence!) both inhabited by two particular types of birds: Canaries and Hawks. On the other side of the flyer your character will find a summary of exactly what this opera is about...
Once your character gets an idea of the setting, the summary is shortly followed by a brief description of two of the main characters:
The opera will be showing for approximately one week, so during that time different characters can assume the roles of the protagonist and heroine - or be a stage hand one day and an actor the next. Additionally, minor characters can be made up during rehearsals and your new role will be accommodated by one (1) genius opera composer. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for theater and music lovers alike, so roles are flexible as they are accessible.
As for repercussions... well, we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?!
—❧
Last month, Amadeus posted an invitation to the network, but due to the events in Dorchacht, it was ICly postponed to now!
Rehearsals will have begun from September 30th to October 5th. You may assume your character took part in rehearsals when they were first announced as well. The opera itself will be performed from October 6th to October 12th, and the log itself will go up on the 6th.
A form has been made below for those interested — please comment and let us know if you'd like to be a part of this grand event!
Feel free to ask questions here, or reach me on Plurk (
advances) or Discord (astrid#0082)!

Our story revolves around the tale of two cities (what a coincidence!) both inhabited by two particular types of birds: Canaries and Hawks. On the other side of the flyer your character will find a summary of exactly what this opera is about...
The setting in which this story is placed is not inhabited by humans. The city in which our story takes place in has never seen the footprint of a human, nor the wand of a Witch nor the claws of a Monster. Instead this city is inhabited by only two occupants: both of which have feathers and wings.
This city is inhabited by birds. Two types to be exact: Canaries and Hawks.
To the unbeknownst eye one may only see a peaceful colorful place, full of lush land and tall trees to fly to. But those who look carefully may observe something particular about this population, and that is the fact that none of the birds ever soar high enough to reach the sky.
You see, there are strict rules which keep this city and its occupants in check.
In our story, the canaries which inhabit this place glide just a little higher than the height of a mere house and float only as high as the length of a street pole. They are prim and proper little birds who never flourish or spread their wings too hastily, for it is said that those who too soar too high or brandish their wings too brazenly can cause trouble for themselves as well as everyone else. Such acts are seen as too radical and too emotional. Best keep to the ground and maintain your composure.
Hawks on the other hand must adhere to a more severe regiment.
One might notice that the hawks in this city never open their wings and for good cause, some might say. It's exclusively prohibited for any hawk to open their massive wings– be it from excitement, fear or surprise. Their sharp talons are gloved at all times, and no hawk is allowed to lift their bodies from up the ground, even just to glide from one place to the other. After all, hawks are much larger than their canary counterparts and far more dangerous to boot. They're inherently aggressive and predatory- who knows what kind of accidents could happen should one get too excited?
"It is for the safety of canaries and hawks alike," The old wise birds insist, "That hawks never open their wings and never take to the skies."
It seems as though all kinds of outbursts that might result in a flurry of wings is frowned upon here. There's no need to fly, some birds may say.
Why act so recklessly when there is perfectly good ground beneath our feet?
Once your character gets an idea of the setting, the summary is shortly followed by a brief description of two of the main characters:
THE PROTAGONIST — A hawk from other places unknown who's come to travel through the city. They are completely oblivious to the strict laws in this place and seem to care very little about doing what's right and proper. Whimsical and carefree, our protagonist doesn't seem to realize the "dangers" they invite each time they make a scene or become overemotional, much to the discomfort of the other birds.
THE HEROINE — A canary who lives here within the city. Our heroine spends most of the story attempting to help and advise our protagonist, although most of their efforts are in vain. Considerate and wise, the heroine firmly believes the rules are for the good of everyone in the city... that is until the protagonist's endless questions and criticisms begin to take root in their mind.
The opera will be showing for approximately one week, so during that time different characters can assume the roles of the protagonist and heroine - or be a stage hand one day and an actor the next. Additionally, minor characters can be made up during rehearsals and your new role will be accommodated by one (1) genius opera composer. A form has been made below for those interested — please comment and let us know if you'd like to be a part of this grand event!
Player:
Character:
What will they be doing?: Acting, singing, playing as a part of the band, writing, prop making, technical support, stage hands — anything you can think of!
Specifics: ie. If your character is acting, are they interested in taking the role of the Protagonist, Heroine, general townsfolk, a random clown, the super funny comedic relief, someone else, TBD? If playing in the band, what instrument will they play? If writing, what do you hope to contribute? Whatever special thing your character is doing!
Other: Questions, comments??
Feel free to ask questions here, or reach me on Plurk (
no subject
Character: Azura
What will they be doing?: Singing, dancing, minor acting
Specifics: Azura's not the world's most talented actress, but she's decent, and she's an excellent singer (opera included) and dancer. She'd probably be best with a supporting role, like That Weird Old Canary Lady Who Lives At The Edge Of Town Who Dispenses Cryptic Advice or something.
Other: She will request to wear a costume that hides part of her face/a cloak/whatever that might obscure her identity a little. She's wary about getting into too much trouble over this h-haha.
no subject
amadeus is going to be wearing one himself even though his presence is pretty discernible on its own, oops.
no subject
Character: Elliot Craig
What will they be doing?: Playing violin in the band, helping backstage, etc
Specifics: Elliot is a very talented violinist, so he'll be able to keep up just fine. He's just here to do crimes and perform music.
Other: He has other obligations with music lessons, so he might not be able to make every performance - he'll try his best though to thank Mozart helping him out in Dorch.
Edit - He is very aware of Crow's typical costume design choices. He will not do a thing to keep him in check. Sorry everyone.
no subject
Character: Antonio Salieri
What will they be doing?: Instructing, singing, band (violin mostly)
Specifics: Salieri will be assisting Amadeus in basically the whole production but others can also find him helping with such things like tuning instruments, helping with sheet work and... singing!
Other: ANYONE is welcome to pester him in regards to music, their roles/duties, or why he's scarfing down a dozen cupcakes that were left backstage....

Character: Louis
What will they be doing?: acting, helping with any behind the scenes stuff (prop making, writing, stage hands, support)
Specifics: He likes to act, and will do whatever is asked for him in regards to that. He's not a super confident singer, though he's probably fine.
Other: He's glad to help anyone who's less confident about acting along. ;)
no subject
Salieri will be more than happy to help with Louis's singing if you find that it's something he'd like to do. o/ or if not then he'll still be available for help!

let him get your costume ready for you >:)c he's deep down a fan of ~fairy tale-esque~ characters and... what's more fairy tale-ish than a talking deer??
no subject
But absolutely!! The costume!! Sounds great to him!!

Character: Ursula
What will they be doing?: stagehand, specifically helping with lighting, but also
dun dun duuuununderstudySpecifics: basically this is the perfect opportunity for her to be suddenly thrust into a performing role and sort of help gently rekindle her appreciation of it. mozart, she's gonna start shining again
Other: if you want an idea of what she can do for lighting, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTsJCv3RU7I forgive the admittedly awkward portuguese dub
no subject
he knew it! he'll be so excited to have her.
no subject
Character: Mettaton
What will they be doing?: Acting, singing, dancing SAYING WORDS, TAKING UP SPACE ON THE STAGE, whatever. He's a lot.
Specifics: Mettaton will vie for a starring role and won't seem to care what the gender of said role is intended to be. Failing that, he will be content to take on a role with a great, showy impact. (A villain? He'll take it.)
Other: He's ready to go to opera jail, Amadeus. You know this.
no subject
Character: Crow Armbrust
What will they be doing?: Stage hand/manager(?), prop maker, (minor) acting/singing
Specifics: Crow's got prior experience in working out and setting up the logistics of a stage performance-- he's really good at getting things to come together under hectic circumstances. He also enjoys being on stage itself but prefers a backup role there.
Other: He will volunteer for costume design. Do not, under any circumstances, let him do costume design.

send them both to the Corner.

Salieri is a bro
no subject
Character: Caspar von Bergliez
What will they be doing?: Technical support, stagehand... minor distraction
Specifics: anything that involves moving stuff, he's totally down for. this is way more fun than the choir practices he's had to go through, so... he's down to help make this whole opera thing work.
Other: he's TRYING HIS BEST
no subject
no subject
Character: Andersen
What will they be doing?: Writing, technical support, costume design
Specifics: He'll be helping with the script bc writing is what he does best, but he'll also be going around loudly giving critique whether you want it or not. A lot of it comes off as weirdly backhanded, though he smooths it over with some genuine compliments... what's his deal...
He'll also be hanging out backstage and he (surprise) actually knows how to sew, so if you got a rip in your costume, come to him!!
Other: will there be free food
no subject
i'm so excited for andersen's loud opinions also

im brainstorming ideas already and i hope they're to ur expectations......... he's gonna be a tiny terror

Character: Rich Goranski
What will they be doing?: Hopefully he'll have time for acting! If not, he'll be playing in the pit band with his guitar.
Specifics: Rich knows how to play both the guitar and drums fairly well, and he's got at least passion for acting, though he's probably not as good as some of the others and his singing... features a lot of punk rock screaming, so he's probably more suited to playing the plucky sidekick or a dramatic villain of some sort.
Other: obligatory link to Rich's wiggley dance moves
no subject
Character: Momiji Sohma
What will they be doing?: Orchestra, mostly, but also assorted stsgehand duties on nights the show needs extra help there.
Specifics: He'll be (another) violin usually, plus helping out with costume changes, moving props/stage setting, etc. a couple nights.
Other: N/A

Character: Alphys
What will they be doing?: Stage crew!
Specifics: She's not the most athletic person so it's best to stick her in a booth and make her push buttons.
Other:
