He remembers now why even though he loves this woman deeply, he never spent much time around her lately. She’s hopeful, determined, optimistic of Ardyn’s vision of the world and head-strong whenever she has to be. But she’s also incredibly…
Naive.
What did Ardyn do to him? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Because he can’t explain what it was like, to see him gather people’s approval by slowly killing himself, can’t explain what it felt like to see him slowly die. Somnus doesn’t care much about what people think of him. He knows he did the right thing burning those people because there was no other way to stop the illness from spreading, to stop it from taking over their world. But for some reason the idea that Aurea thinks everything he did was because he was jealous… it bothers him.
Was he jealous? Absolutely. He may not say this out loud, but he can acknowledge it to himself that it was extremely frustrating to see how everyone prefered Ardyn, and even more so to hear Aera confirm his suspicions that he had been the chosen one. But Aera is implying that that jealousy would have been enough to kill his own brother. And if she’s going to paint him like a monster, if she’s going to make him the only villain in the story what use is arguing about it?
He picks up the pace, but he doesn’t expect to be able to lose her.
“I have no interest in speaking to someone who will not listen to me. You’ve made up your mind, so feel free to tell me the conclusions you’ve reached but don’t expect me to just stand there and act like a wall for you to bounce your frustration of.
If you want to talk, let me know. If you just want to yell at me, there's little I can do to stop you.”
